The Europan market for spunlace nonwovens is characterized by tough competition among a range of large players including German Sandler AG, Finnish Ahlstrom, Finnish Suominen and French Jacob Holm Industries. Further the raw material markets for nonwoven have seen significant increases over the past 48 months. This competition has lead to increased pressure for effective production. So far Jacob Holm Industries have been able to match the increasing demands for efficiency in production. However the newest developments in the market necessitates that the oldest of Jacob Holm Industries’ production lines be rebuilt in order to remain competitive and not be forced to shut down wholly or partially, resulting in lost jobs. Also the line will need added capabilities to support the innovation projects currently ongoing in Jacob Holm Industries, reducing its environmental impact and to improve health and safety for employees. The line currently employs 73 full time employees (including administration).
